HP Design Your Personal Life

Last week I attended the Johannesburg leg of the HP Design Your Personal Life competition. I am always weary of these sort of sponsored events. There was nothing to worry about though. HP went above and beyond what I have seen in the past from sponsors. The event was basically a two-fold event.
Firstly it was an event to launch or find a local band that can compete against bands from Dubai, Athens and Istanbul in an international competition. There were 5 bands that contended for the winning slot, prizes and chance to represent SA.
JacSharp ended up winning the event, very worthy winners in my point.
But more to the point for this blog I suppose are the gadgets that were on display.
There were laptops, desktops, printers and more. My personal favourite was the blinged out, printed on, pimped up laptop on display:

Then there was the undeniably impressive R180 000 Desktop called Voodoo. I personally think that a Desktop, hell any computer at that price is an incredible waste of money. Justin and Gregor seem to think that the cash is justifiable if you are a super duper massive hardware freak that has the knowledge and resources to understand the difference. I want to know what the Voodoo can do that my Mac can’t. Let me know if you think you know.
Anyways, have a look at the Voodoo.

There were printers, the HP Smartphone (which is a possible gadget on review next week) and other displays and gaming presentations.
The Venue (literally and metaphorically) was a brilliant place to have the event. HP spared no expense on the decorations, free bar tab and snacks. One of the best parts of the evening was the satellite link-up to the other three venues. Koula did a great job of managing the crowd and the live sat-linkup around the world on live TV. Wonder how much she managed to get for her work!?

[...] If business and function is your thing then this is a laptop for you. For those of you looking for a more aesthetically pleasing machine you’ll probably want to shop around or Design your Personal Life. [...]
HP continues to punt a lacklustre local line up of product, heavily slanted towards the corporate client and the profitable yet wasteful printer market. in the age of digital and .pdf format,HP’s 3rd world drive to get every one to use a printer, and feel important is rather tired.
HP,where is the Home Server so heavily punted on your international site?
Where are the computers that benefit from Vista Media Centre.
ether the local website is out of date or that is the true line up of old products.
Try phoning HP for information……..the internal call transfer button seems easier to push than actually give information.
