R2-D2 DVD Projector - A geeks superdream

March 13, 2008 - By Guest Reviewer

It hasn’t happened often on Nudjit just yet but I’m blogging about a nifty little super-geek-dream-gadget. In terms of a specifically niche local SA market this little beauty of an aspirational projector has no affect whatsoever. If you are a Star-Wars fan you could live anywhere and still want one of these bad boys.

We’ve been told that the specs have been improved and now include HDMI input for an Xbox or PS3 or your choice of gaming console or something.

I’ve gotten ahead of myself. In an nutshell the R2-D2 is a project, nay, a DVD projector that speaks to the geek within (trust us, it’s there). At a max the screen whips out to a rather large 6.6Meters. That’s big. I can’t tell you about the quality of the actual image as it is incredibly difficult to get your hands on one of these to test. Or so we’re told.

Little R2-D2 will connect to almost any external device through video and audio ports and even caters for memory cards and flashsticks via USB as well as an internal iPod dock for your iTouch or iPhone or whatever else you wanna jam in there with an “i” at the beginning.

A nifty little gimmick to throw in the mix is “Artoos” (who came up with that?) ability to be controlled with a remote. Move him left, right, up, down, hang him (don’t hurt him) and use him as you like all with a remote.

If you like high quality then I would suggest you stick to a R20 000 plasma or HD or Flatscreen TV. The price of the R2-D2 is costly and you might need to have a few years of “Rainy-day” money available to blow on this puppy. Rather stick with the Epson projector we reviewed, it’s cheaper and probably wont need to be delivered from a land far-far-far away.

Cost: R34 147.8 (At today’s Rand/Euro price)
Shipping: Done by Fedex. That’s the best I got. Their site mentioned Europe nothing about Africa.
