Apple iPod Shuffle

June 2, 2008 - By Gregor Rohrig

The iPod Shuffle has been a very fun and very easy gadget to review. Fun, because of its size and subsequent charm. Easy, because of its straightforward functionality.

Size Matters:

The iPod shuffle, is half the size of a matchbox and weighs a mere 15.6 grams. So small to be precise, that it can be lost very easily. I speak of experience here; the one minute you know where it is, the next it’s buried under someone’s business card. I would recommend always keeping your headphones plugged into this minute MP3 player in order to find it easily.

But the Shuffles’ size is exactly the first reason I would consider getting it. It is so small, so light, that it is the perfect MP3 companion whilst traveling, or doing sports. This music player is ideal for gym goers, joggers, and even skydivers!

Functionality:

What makes the Shuffle even more ideal for active people is it’s easy functionality. The Shuffle plays music; it does nothing else, since it doesn’t even have a screen, unlike its bigger brothers (iPod Nano, iPod touch, iPod Classic). It’s purely designed to play, pause, skip, repeat, and of course, shuffle music. Since it only has a memory capacity of 1GB/2GB, the shuffle is intended to be updated by play lists. It is definitely not a mass media storage device like the 160GB iPod classic.

The Shuffle has a battery life of circa 12 hours and can also be used as an external USB flash drive. It comes with a cute docking station and the usual Apple earphones (which I personally cannot use either due to the poor ergonomically design – not sure if it’s a design fault with the headphones or a fault on behalf of my anatomy).

Conclusion:

I think this is an excellent MP3 player - iPod’s never seem to dissapoint. It’s small, light, and does what it’s supposed to do: play music!

I love gadgets, and this one seems to be a keeper, the cool factor on this is huge, and who needs more than 240 songs at one time anyway>?

Got something to say?
