Tevo shoX mini speaker system

June 6, 2008 - By Gregor Rohrig

I rate the Tevo shoX mini speaker as my favourite gadget of the year. I love this innovative little gadget since its not just funky looking, but very practical, highly useful, and it works like a charm.

General Overview

The Tevo shoX is a mini speaker system - a tiny loud speaker, the size of a golf ball. It is designed to play high quality and powerful sound from any digital media storage device – ranging from iPod’s and other media players, portable game consoles, computers and PDA’s.

The shoX can be connected to any audio device using a standard 3.5 mm audio plug. The retractable USB charger and audio cable extends about half a meter, allowing for flexible use dependant on what audio device you are hooking it up to.

The mini speaker charges when connected to a computer via a general USB port and according to the manual, it takes ±3 hours to fully charge the built-in rechargeable lithium battery. This is however difficult to test as the shoX does not indicated when its fully charged. Nevertheless, the speaker provides up to 3 hours play time, which seems more than efficient, considering what it would be used for.

With a simple twist, the patented shoX expands to create a ’sub woofer’ type cavity for incredible bass sound. In its closed position it minimized the bass, where as in the expanded position the maximum bass effect is created and is indeed very impressive.

The shoX offers three volume options: low volume, normal volume, and volume boost. Over and above these options, the volume can of course be also controlled through the audio device it is connected to.

The shoX audio quality is simply astounding. Audio ranging from the spoken-word to up-beat music all comes across with excellent clarity and volume.

What I like about the shoX mini speaker:

  • It is compact
  • The sound quality and volume is very impressive
  • The built-in power supply comes in very handy when connecting it to a mobile device
  • It looks high-tech, funky, and has a very high coolness factor

What I l don’t like about the shoX mini speaker:

Nothing, I like everything about it!

Conclusion:

Personally, I see the real value in using this smart little sound-booster for presentations. Presentations, more often than ever, have multi media elements integrated into them, and what are the actual chances that the venue you are presenting at has a functioning sound system to hook up to your notebook?

Using the shoX will firstly impress the audience as it makes you appear to be a gadget wiz kid. Secondly, you’ll be able to pump out high quality sound into an entire auditorium!

I really love this product - my Macbook speaker isn’t the best so for presentations the Shox speaker means that I no longer have to worry about sound quality when showing videos….it’s an awesome little gadget - everyone should have one!

I recently received a free SHOX speaker by upgrading my cellphone contract, however the USB doesn’t fit into my phone, what would be the point?

Is there a way to connect via Bluetooth? That would really be cool!!!

My collegue has one, he once used it in the department were we are working. It was so loud that we even thought that the big boss heard the sound. He would use it in a car cellphone, laptop.

He just love it because he likes sound.
