Epson’s Stylus C110 Printer

June 17, 2008 - By Guest Reviewer

The Stylus C110 is pegged as an office-environment printer and I couldn’t agree more. It apparently handles up to 200 pages in a month as an average so is well suited for small offices or companies who aren’t in the business of printing and reprinting documents for sale!

However 200 pages is slightly more than the average personal home user will need so this printer might be a bit too much muscle for users with more conservative projected uses.

The PPM that stood the test of time

The very interesting - “Wish I’d have thought of that” - little enhancement that I’ve not noticed on many, or any, printers before this one is that it actually has a “dual black ink system”. This means that you are meant to have optimised printing options when printing, things should be cleaner, clearer, faster and more efficient. This all goes back to the office experience that this printer is catering for.

I liked it. I don’t think that the difference is massive enough to state that it has revolutionised printing forever, it hasn’t. But the two black ink cartridges working together do improve the printing experience, however varied the outcome may be. I suppose what you would call a big difference in quality and experience really depends on what you have been working with before the Stylus C110.

The claim of 37 pages per minute is a fairly broad and maximum speed gauge and I personally never reached that whopping speed and incredible capability. I am sure that on average (a few thousand test pages) this might be the case, but in my testing phase I came close, but no cigar.

Cost effective printing

Again I revert back to the “dual black ink system” in explanation of the cost effective nature of this printer.

In my experience the most costly thing about owning a printer (especially an inkjet) is the ink. I did some searching around online and the cheapest that I managed to find an ink cartridge for this printer was US$6.95 - not even in rands. Now, balancing two of these might cost you somewhat once off every year, maybe if you and your company use the average 200 pages per month. But that cost is well worth it as it seems as though the dual system gives you more pages for your ink. That’s perfect for any small business.

If you are a home user then you are sure to benefit from this as you will more than likely use much less than the average 200 pages per month and thus, at the least, double your pages per ink ratio. Money saver.

Printing quality

There really isn’t much to be said about the quality of the printing. It does the job perfectly well but I wouldn’t expect to print a photograph on high resolution out and see the best results. It would be suitable to put up in your cubicle, to print out powerpoint presentations or to do the run of the mill daily office necessities but wont suffice for the professional or budding photographer.

Cost

Expect to pay approximately R1100.

Would I buy it?

Yes. At the suggested retail price, all the money saving that I think I will do and the printer quality being relatively high. I would definitely take this printer on.
