Epson EMP-X5 LCD Projector
July 17, 2008 - By Ian Barnes
The Epson EMP-X5 LCD Projector is another great projector produced by Epson. This projector is, however, not aimed at the home/cinema user but rather at a business user and the projector is more suited at doing presentations than playing games, but more on that later.

Getting to grips with it
Epson have done well with this projector and getting up and running is as easy as plugging in your av cables, a power cord and your away - no initial configuration, no complicated settings - just a simple plug-in and go. That is, however, when you start to notice that this projector has a few problems and the biggest of those is manual focus. With this being a projector aimed at business users I would have thought that Epson would have fitted this with auto-focus so that when you are making your presentation, the screen is focused optimally.
As mentioned above the Epson EMP-X5 LCD Projector is aimed at the business end of the market and this becomes very clear if you try and play any games, or watch any movies through it when you can start to see the projector becoming sluggish for a few seconds and a few frames being slightly delayed - all of which can kind of be expected as its not a home cinema projector. All of this said though the picture quality is brilliant and remains brilliant no matter what distance you put it away from the screen or what ambient light is present.
The great features
The Epson EMP-X5 LCD Projector has many great features, but here are my pick of them:
- Automatic Vertical Keystone Correction. This feature makes sure that no matter where you are projecting from your image is always square and not distorted in any way.
- The remote control. This tool is often taken for granted, but this remote is nicely laid out and has the important controls which makes using it while doing your presentation all that easier
- Quick on/off. The projector goes from off to on in under 5 seconds and takes roughly the same time to switch off - thus enabling you to quickly setup for a meeting.
- A/V mute slide. This enables you to blank out the screen for a few seconds should you need to regain your audience’s attention
Conclusion
The Epson EMP-X5 LCD Projector is a great projector for any business, regardless whether you are SME or a large corporate. Its light, easy to set-up and would work well mounted in a boardroom or in a sales reps bag. I do however maintain that it is not a home cinema projector as it lacks a few vital things in that department. It gets a big thumbs up from me.
