iPhone firmware 2.0 hack
July 21, 2008 - By Guest Reviewer
On Saturday evening the iPhone-dev team release PwnageTool 2.0 for Mac.
This new version unlocks and hacks the 1st Generation iPhone, 3G iPhone and the iPod Touch which means you can now upgrade to the latest firmware 2.0 on any of these devices.
Version 2.0.1 of PwnageTool has also been released so if you plan to use this tool make sure you download the latest one and there’s a nifty tutorial here to help you along your way.
This hack does work on 1st Gen iPhone’s running on the Vodacom network although EDGE/GPRS doesn’t appear to be working at this stage.
So, what is the benefit of running this hack? Well, if you’re getting the official 3G iPhone from Vodacom (launch date still to be announced) then there is little need for this. However, if you’re on a 1st Gen iPhone (you know who you are) then this is a great tool to get you up to the latest firmware.
UPDATE: The hack has been done on a 1st Gen iPhone running off the Cell C network without any problems. EDGE/GPRS works on Cell C, unlike Vodacom.
