I published the estimated prices on my blog, they are:

Apple iPhone 3G 8GB - R1500.00 to R2000.00 once off pay in on a new 24 month contract or upgrade (Business package or higher)
Apple iPhone 3G 16GB - R2000.00 to R2500.00 once off pay in on a new 24 month contract or upgrade (Business package or higher)

Apple iPhone 3G 8GB - Retail (no contract) between R5000.00 and R6000.00 incl. vat
Apple iPhone 3G 16GB - Retail (no contract) between R7000.00 and R8000.00 incl. vat

What I would like to know, is if I’m inside a contract and not due for an upgrade yet, will I be paying the full 5k-7k price?

    It’s official - http://www.vodacom.co.za/iphone/deals.jsp

R7600 on pre-paid is a little steep for the 16GB iPhone - but still less than I thought.

On contract it seems a good deal.

You can actually download a pricelist from here: http://www.imod.co.za/iPhone-S.....e-List.pdf :)

It seems that Vodacom has found just another way to relieve our ( not very bright )South Africans of their money , by yet again raping and pillaging our vanity, and still very disturbingly our need and right to communicate.

the Iphone ’s ( 3G 8gb ) price was fixed by Apple’s Steve Jobs at $199 that translates into about R1700

I have no Idea how they can get away with structuring prices on the product like they did.
( But the people came in droves to buy the exuberantly priced gadget at the launch on Friday morning …… enough said )

ER: Apple said the most pay-in would be $199 on a contracted phone with AT&T. If you purchase a phone cash in the US it costs around $600 which is slightly less than here.

  6. ER Lombard on September 30th, 2008 9:55 am

Ian: yes through AT&T the deal may be similar than Vodacom’s but AT&T doesn’t seem to have a cash deal, but the instore cash price from BestBuy is $199, that is consistant with the Apple Announcement.

Sorry I was wrong about AT&T, they don’t have a deal similar , just way better ; they are selling it at the announced price of $199 and $299 , but just expecting you to take a 24month contract ( any contract !!! )

Vodacom is Raping South Africans PERIOD !!!

Vodacom has lost the plot on this one. Its about data not minutes. The more expensive the contract the more the minutes. I want more data not minutes. If minutes are the thing then the phone is being targeted at business users, Thats a no no. An HTC or Blackberry is much better. There is no way business people will move to this. It is a downgrade from most of the business phones on the market already.

vodaloosers are A HUGE RIPPOFF!. I walked into the vodashop and asked the price of the iphone, so to my shock told me on prepaid the iphone is R8000 for the 8gig. wtf. and R8999 for the 16gig. I HATE VODACOM.

How does the contract work? I have just purchased a htc s710 and want to know if it can be traded in. It is brand new and has not yet been used. How would a contract work then.
    Thanks

Won’t we ever have an option of paying less.. not more. vodabull is fixing prices way above average and it really sucks. wish we could get them here to look at the comments.

Got something to say?
